It's amazing what you discover when you are on the road. Late night news watching prompted me to sign up for mint.com: a personal finance tracking website that allows you see your spending habits without having to do the math.
It sounds a little sketchy at first. Enter in all your bank log in info and let the pie charting commence. But I figure, if the local news is reporting on it, it can't be that bad, right? (Plus, there is a whole privacy policy, secure server, statement all over their website. I think we're okay.)
So now, I can see how much I really DO spend at Target per month. Oh... wait... this is supposed to be a good thing?
Anyway, the point is to see, on average, how much we spend where per month. And then set a budget. And maybe stick to it.
Just a tip: turn off the alerts to your email. Otherwise you are gonna get spammed every time you fall below a certain balance or go over budget during the month.
